E-mail: Lorraine is a transportation engineer in Gorove Slade’s Fairfax office and possesses over a decade of transportation engineering and planning experience serving both the public and private sectors. She has prepared many traffic studies for residential, retail, office and mixed-use projects, ranging from small-scale projects to large town centers. Her most recent focus has been the preparation of Signal Design and Pavement Marking and Signing Plans to meet the guidelines provided by Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in Loudoun and Fairfax County. She has worked on all the elements necessary to gain approval from VDOT for the design and installation of traffic signals and pavement marking and striping plans. Elements include close coordination with the Civil engineers and VDOT, evaluation of existing and proposed geometry while considering costs, determining required easements, all signal system components, overhead signing requirements, signing and signal pole loading details, left-turn assessments, signal phasing, clearance interval timings and controller timing plans, signing and pavement marking plans, signal wiring design, equipment detailing and cost estimates.
In addition, she has provided design support for roadway design projects (where Gorove Slade has typically been involved as a sub-consultant). The scope of work involved in these projects varies but some of the key elements include traffic signal warrant studies, speed studies, crosswalk studies, providing supporting documentation for design elements such as turn lanes and intersection geometry, coordinating signal pole re-certifications and field changes required during construction. Her experience in the land development industry has proved to be invaluable during the planning and construction stages of design projects.
Lorraine has three busy kids (two in college, one in high school) and enjoys participating on multiple USTA Tennis Teams during her off time. She truly enjoys cooking, eating and drinking with friends and family and won’t hesitate to try something new! Her favorite team building event at Gorove Slade was the Ragnar Relay Series, but don’t be surprised when she participates in all the outdoor company events.
