Gorove Slade Expands into Hampton Roads with New Office
Gorove Slade is deepening our presence in Virginia with a new office at 300 E Main Street in downtown Norfolk. The expansion marks a significant step in the firm’s continued growth throughout the Hampton Roads region and beyond. The move is strategically designed to bring Gorove Slade’s proven approach to transportation solutions closer to the heart of one of Virginia’s most unique and dynamic regions.
Leading the charge is Mike Bailey, a principal at Gorove Slade who brings nearly 15 years of experience in business development, project execution, and client coordination, including in the Richmond and Hampton Roads regions. Bailey and the team bring a unique blend of public and private sector experience, positioning the Norfolk office to support a wide variety of client needs.
“As a Chesapeake native, opening this office in Norfolk is a homecoming for me. I’m energized to help grow our footprint and give back to the community I came from. I’m particularly proud that Gorove Slade has been continuously building upon our portfolio of multiple projects that support the creation of jobs and promote continued economic development in the region.”
Hampton Roads presents a complex and fast-evolving transportation landscape. The area balances rapid residential and commercial growth, military and industrial infrastructure, and aging road networks that demand thoughtful, context-sensitive solutions. With a long history of tackling congestion mitigation, land use planning, and entitlement work, Gorove Slade is ready to take on the challenge.
“This, our latest office expansion, continues a transformative time for Gorove Slade,” says Chris Tacinelli, CEO of Gorove Slade. “Our expansion into Norfolk allows us to solidify the close relationships we have with clients in Hampton Roads and bring the full list of our service capabilities to a diverse and dynamic region in Virginia. Mike and the team are exactly the right people to lead this effort.”
Gorove Slade is currently engaged in a number of projects across the region, including work at Pretlow Industrial Park in Franklin and Carlton Advanced Manufacturing in Newport News. These projects are emblematic of our mission to support job creation, walkability, and smart infrastructure that keeps communities connected and moving.
“We’re excited that Gorove Slade is establishing a local presence in Hampton Roads, where it’s already making a strong impact,” said Doug Smith, President & CEO of the Hampton Roads Alliance. “Their decision to open an office in downtown Norfolk underscores the strength and momentum of our region. Having an industry leader like Gorove Slade embedded in our community will play a critical role in shaping smart, connected infrastructure that supports both economic growth and quality of life across Hampton Roads.”
Local leaders see the firm’s expansion as a testament to Hampton Roads’ rising profile as a hub for innovation, infrastructure, and investment.
“We are proud to welcome Gorove Slade to Norfolk. Our city has always been a place where ideas take root and industries evolve—and Gorove Slade’s arrival is a natural fit for that tradition,” said Sean Washington, Director of Economic Development for the City of Norfolk. “By choosing to open their newest, forward-leaning office in the heart of our innovation corridor, they’re reinforcing downtown Norfolk as a destination for companies building smart, connected communities. Their transportation and infrastructure expertise strengthens our local and regional economy and adds to the growing network of talent shaping what’s next. Our economic development team looks forward to collaborating with Gorove Slade as we continue fueling the future together.”
Gorove Slade’s expansion into Norfolk signals not only its commitment to the Hampton Roads region but also the growing demand for innovative infrastructure solutions that support the area’s continued growth and vitality.
