Transportation Modeling
Synchro ® and SimTraffic ®
Synchro ® implements the methodologies of the industry-standard Highway Capacity Manual for various intersection traffic controls to determine operational levels of service and average vehicular delays. In areas with multiple closely-spaced traffic signals, Synchro ® accounts for the interaction between the signals and can be useful for optimizing signal timing and coordination parameters.
SimTraffic ® models individual cars, trucks, buses and pedestrians traveling through a network of freeways, streets and multiple types of intersections. Delays, vehicular queues, travel times and other measures of effectiveness are computed for these modeled users over a defined simulation period and can be determined for roadway segments and corridors, in addition to individual intersections. SimTraffic ® produces 2-D and 3-D animations of the transportation model and these simulations are effective tools in conveying the operation of complex transportation facilities in public presentations.
PTV VISSIM
PTV VISSIM is a state-of-the-art microsimulation software tool that analyzes multi-modal traffic flow. Simulation of arterial roadways, freeways, transit operations and pedestrian movement is based on the movement of individual network users and the interaction between them. A wide range of facility and driver/pedestrian adjustment parameters is available to calibrate the model to reflect observed operations. Visualizations in both 2-D and 3-D can be generated to show any level of detail from the overall network operation to passenger boarding/alighting at a single bus stop.
These tools are vital to the evaluation of transportation operations and we use them every day. Synchro/SimTraffic and VISSIM allow Gorove Slade engineers to answer the question “How will this work?” and demonstrate the answers effectively to others.
